Patrick Ewing
Knicks Center, 1984 Olympic Gold, Georgetown Legend
The Jamaican Leo in New York
Patrick Ewing came from Jamaica to Georgetown, won an NCAA title under John Thompson, and then dominated the NBA for 17 seasons as the New York Knicks’ most beloved player. His rivalry with Michael Jordan’s Bulls in the playoffs of the 1990s defined an entire era — Ewing never got a ring, which the city forgave because he gave everything he had every night.
Leo Legacy
- Georgetown NCAA title: 1984 NCAA Champion under legendary coach John Thompson
- 1984 Olympic Gold: Won gold at Los Angeles Olympics, Dream Team forerunner
- 11x NBA All-Star: 17 seasons as the Knicks’ dominant presence
- NBA Hall of Fame: Inducted 2008 — his class included Hakeem Olajuwon and Isiah Thomas
Ewing’s Leo heart was always bigger than even Madison Square Garden — and that is saying something.
“I gave everything I had to this city. I have no regrets.”
